ELT MENTOR
Basic requirement:
• Native speaker competence
• A Bachelor’s degree in any subject
• A recognised ESL teaching qualification – such as CELTA or Trinity Diploma
• 3 years teaching experience – most of which should be spent with young learners
• At least 28 years of age
Job Description:
• to upgrade teacher professionalism in English language teaching
• to develop proficiency in English for both trained and untrained teachers of English
• to devise materials for English language teaching and learning
• to design motivation strategies for learning English
• to assist schools with co-curricular activities with the support and assistance of local colleagues
Mentors’ Responsibilities:
• Report directly to the team coordinator on any matters relating to the project
• Plan, develop and coordinate professional development programmes and activities for teacher participants in the schools
• Conduct face-to-face on site centralized training for teacher participants
• Visit teacher participants in their schools and classrooms to assist them in practicing what they learnt in training sessions
• Observe lessons conducted by teacher participants for monitoring and tutorial purposes
• Conduct cluster and zone-level workshops or seminars according to a jointly agreed schedule
• Conduct demonstration lessons in schools for the benefit of teacher participants
• Attend regular meetings with Team leaders
• Liaise with schools senior management, especially the head teacher and Assistant head regarding English language teaching within the school
• Offer professional advice and assistance to school on English language co-curricular activities
• Prepare and submit programme progress reports • Prepare and submit teacher participation progress and observation reports
• Identify and develop a team of potential trainers among teacher participants in their cluster
